Olympic call center to handle 10 million calls
Spectator polls reveal that telephone inquiry is considered the most convenient means of access to information services and that language barriers cause the most worry for international visitors and some from Hong Kong, Macao and Chinese Taipei. As such, BOCOG has established the call center to provide a link between spectators and the competition venues and cities.
The call center will provide spectators with information services in multiple languages, through three functions: the Information Center, which provides information concerning the Beijing Games; the Liaison Service Center, which handles questions about venues, special service inquiries and even complaints; and the Operations Support Center, which provides language help to spectator service volunteers.
Volunteers stationed at the call center are selected from language majors in college, customer service employees at call centers, retired foreign affairs personnel, international students now studying in Beijing’s universities, and Chinese overseas students who are home for the summer. All volunteers have received specialized training concerning the Olympics.
